The lyrics of “These Useless Things” examine what is important to hang onto during a relationship, and what loses value once the relationship crumbles.
“I’ll take the trash out to the curb Once I’ve cleaned out they old stuff Like the bottle that we drank from When we’d finally had enough And the sweater you had stolen From that Baltimore cafe You said you had to have it She won’t miss it anyway…”
Steven Harz was the 2013 winner of the international People’s Poetry Contest and is a three-time winner of The Iron Writer Challenge. Steve still writes poetry, but now it rhymes and is put to music – either acoustic with a Martin or electric with a Gretsch.
