Prior to this week I was not familiar with Coral’s work, but this is fantastic – I hope you enjoy! From YouTube: “Coral More came in 4th place with a score of 53.6 on March 16th at the Vancouver Poetry Slam. This is Coral’s poem “Reasons Why Kissing Your Ex Girlfriend Is A Bad Idea”
Be prepared, this one by the great Shane Koyczan is devastatingly beautiful…
Sam Cook of Button Poetry reads his poem, “On Feeling Safe” as an homage to his fiance, Emily.
I’m pretty sure that there is some blasphemy in here somewhere (!!) but this is beautiful nonetheless. Please enjoy Gage Wallace’s reading of “Joseph Speaks To Mary”on Button Poetry!
We missed our Spoken Word installment last week so here’s Sabrina Benaim’s very perfect: Explaining My Depression To My M…: http://youtu.be/58oEObB3J-U
I cannot think of any better way to enter the new year than to listen to Eric Darby’s performance of “Scratch and Dent Dreams” from the 2005 National Poetry Slam Individual Semifinals. If you’ve seen this before you already know that it’s tremendous!
Due to Christmas we skipped over Spoken Word Thursday, so this week we have a special weekend edition. This is a very powerful and thought-provoking piece by Dylan Garity called “Resurrection” – enjoy. “Jesus was not resurrected by God, he was brought back by people who told his stories.”
Shane Koyczan, once again, nails it, which is why he’s back for this week’s Spoken Word Thursday. With ‘Heaven, or Whatever’ he once again nails it as this is funny, sad, thought-provoking, and well worth the few minutes it takes to watch – personally this week I’ve watched it at least a half dozen times. Enjoy!
I really like Michael Lee’s poem titled “Pass on” – so for this week’s Reblog Tuesday we visit his Tumblr page. Please do yourself a favor (!!) and take a look at these powerful words and fantastic production. “The theory of six degrees of separation was never meant to see how many people we couldContinue reading “Reblog Tuesday: Michael Lee’s “Pass on” @MichaelLeeWrite”
This week we watch Marina Keegan performing “Bygones” at WORDs of Prey from the Fall of 2010. “…and i cry because everything is so beautiful and so short.”
In this week’s episode of Reblog Tuesday we visit the blog of Oregon-based poet Doc Luben – ‘Diesel Powered Rag Doll’ – and specifically his poem titled “14 Lines From Love Letters Or Suicide Notes”. This poem is terrific in written form, and is very powerfully delivered in spoken word (coming soon…). Enjoy! https://doclubenpoetry.tumblr.com/post/90701663175/14-lines-from-love-letters-or-suicide-notes
“Help Wanted” is one of my favorites by Shane Koyczan – I hope you enjoy! “…the light at the end of your tunnel needs to be maintained…”
This week on Spoken Word Wednesday I’d like to share “Honest Confessions on Letting Go” by Kevin Kantor. This is both funny and poignant and discusses feelings and emotions (and yes, they are two different things, Mom) that we have all experienced and perhaps tried to avoid (or not…) in the foundational stages of a relationship. “…you coveredContinue reading “Spoken Word Wednesday: “Honest Confessions on Letting Go” by @Kevin_Kantor”
One of my favorite poets – written or spoken word – is Sierra DeMulder. Her writing is tremendously powerful and her writing will kick you in the ass with every word. I strongly suggest her book “New Shoes on a Dead Horse” – I’ve read it and re-read it multiple times. Enjoy her spoken wordContinue reading “Spoken Word Wednesday: Sierra DeMulder’s “Today Means Amen””
Another great spoken word piece by the great Shane Koyczan. Beautifully read and illustrated. In my opinion, he should be required reading/listening in all schools. **If you liked this, check out Shane’s TED talk: https://stevenharz.com/2014/05/12/shane-koyczan-at-tedxyouthsandiego-2013/
ken Word Peotry / https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FR7phEGDWic Marina Keegan performs “Nuclear Spring” on the WORD YALE You Tube channel. As amazing live as it is in written form…
“Shane Koyczan shares his extraordinary blueprint for a breakthrough and breaks open hearts, minds and attitudes with his unlimited gift of poetry, storytelling and human connection (accompanied by The Short Story Long Band).
