Using a behind-the-ear
algebra class No. 2 pencil,
he rewinds and Alabama mix tape
so it can be played through
pickup truck speakers.
She stares at his feet,
studying what will one day
be carrying her
away from here.
This is an excerpt from my poem, ‘Alabama mix tape and a No. 2 pencil,’ which appears in my collection titled, “Country Songs and Backroad Love Notes” – available at Amazon in paperback and Kindle.
